Will it be ok to scrape off the dried compound, apply some fresh, and refit the heatsink? I understand that dried compound still works, but I have plenty here and would like to replace it as my PC doesn't seem to be running as fast and I'm getting the odd frozen screen lately.

I suggest that your remove traces of old thermal compound using rubbing alcohol or acetone (nailpolish remover) and apply new compound. bye, Tillmann
