Subject: Plate at downside motherboard

I noticed that i do have a good working heatsink on my AMD Athlon 1700mhz processor, but at the back of the motherboard i think there should be a metal plate at the spot where on top of the board the processor is located. I have an Asus A7V266-E board.
Well, this plate isn't there, though its possible to put on with 4 screws.

I wonder do i need to get such a metal plate, or can i leave it this way.
The main reason i'm telling you this is that processor-temperatures are ok...near 54 celsius....but my voltages shows 13.25 instead of 12V!
So now and then my systems crashes and has messed up my hard-disks (already bought new HD..same problem).

Might this lack of a metal plate at the downside of the MB the problem of all things...or should i leave it this way?

Thx,

Ronald

Hi,

on Socket A motherboards, there is NO metal plate behind the CPU, ever.

This is only the case for Athlon 64 / Opteron motherboards.

Your problem is related to the power supply. You'll have to change it.

Hmm ok....i can but i have this A7V266-E board in 2 different cases. I mean does this mean that both powersuplies aren't sufficient enough?
It could be...sure, but can you give me an idea wich performence my powersupply should have?
