Hi - I have a Intel (Lexington 2) Pentium 4 - 2.4-GHz (533-MHz) R3
motherboard. The heatsink/fan that is on mother board is a marked AVC C6025B12L. It must fit into a pre-attached retention frame and so the size of the heat sink is critical 3.5 X 2.5. It also locks into place with springs on the rentention frame. Gateway has been giving me just enough info to think they can solve it but two weeks later still nothing. The only thing I can find is this picture at [URL]http://mediaplace.nl/forum/about106407.html[URL]

Any suggestions out there? Thanks in advance

Hi,

the size of the plastic retention frame of the Socket 478 P4 CPUs is standardized; you should be able to replace the heatsink with another cooler which will fit the frame - no need to get the same model. Just make sure that the cooler you get actually uses the retention frame (some models are fixed using screws and don't need the frame).

However, if it's only the fan that failed, I suggest that you just replace the fan and keep the heatsink - the cheapest solution, and it's the least hassle.

bye,
Till
