hi, I recently had to replace a burnt out motherbaord, so I got a motherboard/processor

741GX-M and sempron 2400 processor

the sempron has a much smaller heat sink, than was on the older processor (athlon ac-ax1700dmt3c), not only that, but the old heatsink fan ran air through it much faster, I can tell the diffrence just by putting my hand over the old heat sink, and feeling the air comeing from it

with my hand over the new heatsink fan, I can hardly feel the air from it

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but is there any possibility that the newer, smaller heat sink is actually better than the bulkier old one? or should I reinstall the old one

No it probably not better, the sempron probably runs cooler. You can use the old one (if its still compatable with socket A) but my advice would be to stick with the new one for quietness. Oh and don't forget the thermal compound
