I was wondering if I take those 4 foam standoffs off my AMD CPU what would happen? They seem to create a gap between the heatsink and the CPU die.

Hi,

the four pads should not be removed. The heatsink should only be in contact with the small die in the center of the CPU. Therefore it is normal that there is a gap between the organic/ceramic part outer of the CPU and the heatsink.

If you remove the pads, damage may occur to the CPU both during reinstallation of the heatsink, or if the PC is moved around.

bye,
Tillmann
