The speculations proved to be false: Thanks to reduced core voltage, AMD's dual core Opteron CPUs have a maximum power dissipation of 95 Watts - much less than Intel's counterparts - and the desktop-oriented Athlon 64 X2 dissipate up to 110 Watts. Heatsinks designed for single-core versions of the CPUs should also be compatible with the new dual core processors. |
